Laparoscopic management of a giant ovarian cyst in a young woman
An ovarian cysts can be gigantic in size. They are divided into benign and malignant. A serous cyctadenoma is a benign lesion. The giant ovarian cysts can imitate pregnancy with its size at first sight. Diagnosis is lengthy due to the asymptomatic course of the disease. The patient will notice the changes only when there is a significant increase in the volume of the abdomen. The pains will occure only from the pressure on the organs of the abdominal cavity as compartment syndrome in an advanced stage of the growth. Our patient remembered retrospectively the initial difficulties with a time gap of half a year. In this case, diagnostic procedure required interdisciplinary cooperation. When considering the surgical solution for tumor resection, we leaned towards the option of the laparoscopic technique in combination with a minilaparotomy approach using a retractor, which concurrently offers safe evacuation of the cyst. At the same time, after the system was completed, it served as a camera port. In the last step, it was used to evacuate the tumor. Even gigantic cyst can be treated laparoscopically if the principles of radicality are followed.
