Laparoscopy during pregnancy – up to date
Laparoscopy in pregnancy was contraindicated 20 years ago because of the risk of uterine injury during the trocar placement and for fetal malperfusion due to pneumoperitoneum. At present, however, due to the progress and greater experience of surgeons, laparoscopy is becoming the method of choice in the treatment of acute abdominal disease (AAD) in pregnant women. The most common AADs in pregnancy are acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. It is laparoscopic appendectomy and cholecystectomy that are the most common surgical procedures in pregnancy.
