Laparoscopy and laparotomy in the treatment of complicated diverticulitis

Diverticular disease has a high incidence, especially in developed countries. We distinguish between diverticular disease and diverticulitis, which arises from its basis. As part of diverticular disease treatment, we identify uncomplicated and complicated forms of diverticulitis. Acute diverticulitis is classified according to the Hinchey-Wasvary classification with stages I - IV. The treatment of the complicated form of diverticulitis Hinchey II - IV includes several modalities of intervention, either semi-invasive or invasive. In cases of resection procedures, the prevailing trend is a one-stage solution with primary anastomosis and the associated reduction in the number of permanent colostomies, which fundamentally affect the quality of life of patients. Laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of complicated diverticulitis has growing advantages over open surgery.
