Extreme choledocholithiasis

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is considered the most successful and the safest therapeutic method for removing gall stones from common bile duct. Nevertheless, this technique is often unsuccessful in patients with calculi larger than 10 mm and cases with large stones taking up the entire bile duct represent a therapeutic challenge. Worldwide, there are very few reports of solitary giant gall stone in bile ducts bigger than 5 cm. In our case report we present a 66-year-old female patient, from whose common bile duct we successfully extracted s giant staghorn calculus measuring 12,8 x 3,7 cm.
