Surgical treatment of biliary tract cancer
Cholangiocarcinomas are malignancies with extremely poor prognosis. Despite the treatment is average five-year survival rate 5-10%. Surgical resection is the only curative treatment option. According the site of the tumor surgical treatment includes duodenopancreatectomies, segmental bile duct resections with or without hepatic resection and hepatic resections. Indications are discussed in the text below.
