Bile leakage after liver resection
Aim:The evaluation and management of biliary leakage after liver resections. Material and Methods:Biliary leakage and management assessed in 394 patients who underwent liver resection between January 2004 and March 2014. Results: In 394 assessed patients the overall rate of biliary leakage after liver resection was 10 %, in 4 cases typ A fistula, in 27 cases typ B and in 7 cases typ C fistula who underwent relaparotomy. The incidence of bile leakage is higher in patients who had undergone concomitant hepaticojejunoanastomosis (34,8 % vs 6,5 %). Conclusion:Bile leakage remains a major postoperative complication after liver resections, prolonging hospital stay, which delay the initiations of the oncological treatment, affect the long-term disease course of the patients. Due to this reasons its important that this type of surgery is carried out in hight volume specialized centers, while PTD and endoscopic stenteing are effective treatment modalities for biliary leakage and managing this type of complications.
