Changes in thyroid hormones in patients with depression
There is a well-established relationship between hormonal systems and depression. Thyroid (HPT) and adrenal axis (HPA) are closely linked to depression. The changes in these two axes are related not only to endocrine diseases but to depression too. This led to studies examining the efficacy of these hormones for treatment of depression and tri-iodothyronine had the best results. Tri-iodothyronine is also in the guidelines for management of depression. This is particularly important from the point of view that some hormones have predictive character to continuance of depression. Drawing on this knowledge we have within this own monitoring confirmed the pilot, as well as the context of thyroid hormones, especially tri-iodothyronine.
Keywords: depression, HPT, tri-iodothyronine, thyroxine, thyreotropine.
