Importance of concept of cycloid psychoses today
The authors in introduction of article informe about history of opinions about psychotic disorders, which are closed, but different, to affective disorder and schizophrenia. They underline fact, that clinical empiria was interpretated by different ways. Difficult development was interrupted by atheoretical classification of mental disorders. However such as phase in development of knowledge about mental disorders are undoubtedly beneficial. They improved evidence of mental disorders, and mainly some of diagnostic cathegories had limited appearance of later diagnostic revisions. The authors postulate, that new classifications are not cause for negation of knowledge from the past. They propose use of double diagnostic evidence (diagnostic thinking according to ICD and older conceptions). This course can enrich prognostic thinking and influence therapeutic algorithm. They suggest on account of cycloid psychoses, which cannot be conformed as nozologic units, but they are clinical reality.
