Tardive Dyskinesia - risk factors and practical experience in its treatment.

The authors present a summary of risk factors for tardive diskinesia (TD). They discuss the annual incidence rate and stress the increased attention to TD and the implementation of its therapy and also its prophylaxis. There is the main role of novel atypical antipsychotics: olanzapine, risperidone and clozapine. Their introduction in psychiatric therapy lead to a decline in the incidence of TD. The authors present their own experience with the use of atypical antipsychotics in TD therapy and also its prophylaxis.
