Brief overall summary of the tobacco dependence treatment

Smoking of cigarettes is the main risk factor of the chronic non-communicable diseases In the Slovak republic about 70 % of smokers want and try to stop smoking The authors deal with the basic principles of tobacco dependence treatment Treatment consists of the non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapeutic methods Among the main pharmacological methods belong nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and therapy with new drug – varenicline and older – bupropion Evidence base treatment of tobacco dependence is effective and also cost-effective method to decrease the prevalence of tobacco associated diseases and premature deaths of smokers.
