Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in DSM-5

The new fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) makes several key changes to the category of schizophrenia spectrum and highlights for future study an area that could be critical for early detection of this often debilitating condition with profound lifelong impairments in social and vocational functioning for most of those with the condition. In this article, major revisions in the DSM-5 criteria for schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders are summarized and their implications for clinical practice and research are discussed.
