Adjunctive treatment with antipsychotics as an optimized strategy of recurrent depressive disorder treatment
Although different pharmaceutical augmentation strategies for recurrent depressive disorder exist, the prescription of second-generation antipsychotics as an add-on treatment to antidepressants seems to be supported by specific evidence of efficacy. However, each potential option has its own set of benefits and disadvantages. The only available medication in Slovakia approved for adjunctive treatment of recurrent depressive disorder at doses of 150 to 300 mg/day is quetiapine, in the form of sustained-released tablets. This article is prepared as a non-systematic review of the literature with subjective contributions of authors based on their own clinical experience.
