THE CAUSES OF NONORGANIC SLEEP DISORDERS

Life is a cyclic alternation of wakefulness and sleep. The problems of life are the causes of primary sleep disorders. Some of the diagnoses for the four major groups of sleep disorders have been recognized as nonorganic. These groups have been designated as insomnia, hypersomnia, circadian rhythm disorder and parasomnia. This article includes a description of the primary sleep disorders in which emotional causes are considered to be of primary importance.
