Organic catatonia – a case report
In the past, catatonia was almost exclusively associated with schizophrenia. However, it gradually became clear that catatonic symptoms can be quite common in addition to a wide range of physical disorders and conditions. Thus, catatonia becomes more of a syndrome with a complex pathomechanism at multiple levels of neutransmitter systems. In this article, the author outlined the theoretical foundations of catatonia and demonstrated a case report of a patient with catatonia in connection with thromboembolic disease.
