Multifunctional molecules for treatment of multifactorial diseases

Many psychiatric and neurologic disorders are highly variable and heterogeneous, with complex etiology and pathogenesis. Current trends in neuropsychopharmacology are multifunctional drugs, agents with more than one therapeutic mechanism. More or less, almost all psychotropic drugs have multiple pharmacologic activities. Besides other compounds, duloxetine is one of multifunctional molecules possessing specifically both serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitory activities, which is used in the treatment of several mental disorders and somatic diseases.
