Classification of psychopharmacological medications – past and present

Evolution in classification/nomenclature of psychopharmacons has moved from clinical criteria of observed/expected response to multi-axis criteria. The reason for this progress has been due to increased number of medications, changes in spectrum of their effectiveness and broader indications for the same medication. Further progress of neuroscience and emergence of new medicines has been precondition for this development. The aim of the new classification/nomenclature is to characterize the medication and its group and to give a clinician choice in selection of psychopharmacological medications according the most complex information available. The assumption for this novelty application is a good basic knowledge of psychopharmacological medication.
