Introduction of the Study of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University (Slovak University) in Bratislava
In the interwar period, there was no educational institution in Slovakia that would provide training for pharmacists. University studies for pharmacists were introduced in Slovakia only in 1939 due to changes in the political situation after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The Faculty of Medicine of the Slovak University (nowadays Comenius University) in Bratislava has played an important role in creation of the concept and implementation of the study of pharmacy. The concept and organization of the study gradually changed from a two-year training of pharmacists to a four-year model of university study of pharmacy. In spite of the fact that the teaching of pharmacy in the first years encountered personnel, spatial and technical problems, it was gradually possible to build up the preconditions for the implementation of a full-fledged university study of pharmacy and for the establishment of the SU Faculty of Pharmacy in Bratislava in 1952.
