Evaluation of six-month targeted nutritional intervention on selected parameters in patients with malnutrition
Our general practitioner´s office has joined the national six-month targeted nutritional intervention program using a high-protein high- -energy supplement to monitor 471 patients with malnutrition. It was primarily focused on patient’s changes in weight, BMI and dominant arm circumference. The achieved improvements correlated with the compliance and the quality of life of the patient. The national study was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic from July to October 2020 and it showed provable improvement of the primarily and secondarily monitored parameters. Cancer (26,8 %), gastrointestinal diseases (21,7 %) and endocrine/nutritional/metabolic diseases (21,0 %) were among the most frequent causes of malnutrition. This statistic proves that the malnutrition problem does not apply only to cancer patients.
