Profile pharmacotherapy of osteoarthritis in terms of a pharmacist

Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease whose incidence increases with age and characteristically affects mainly small joints of the hands, weight bearing joints and spine. The goal of treatment is to delay the progression of osteoarthritis disease, relieve pain, suppress inflammation, preserve and improve the quality of life. Treatment of patients with OA begins with non-pharmacological therapies and in case of lack of efficiency or persistence of significant pain combined with pharmacotherapy. Drugs used in the treatment of OA are divided into drug with fast-onset of action – SYRADOA (non-opioid analgesics, NSAIDs, intra-articular steroids or local therapy), and drugs with slow-onset action – SYSADOA (glucosaminesulphate, chondroitinsulphate, hyaluronic acid, ASU, diacetylrhein).
