Vaccination against COVID-19 in pregnant and breastfeeding women

More than 200 million children have been born on Earth globally since the discovery of the coronavirus. To date, 2% of the world’s population has become infected at a certain point in time during a pandemic. Although it is impossible to quantify precisely, even the most conservative estimates of the total number of children born with maternal coronavirus exposure ,,in utero“ are in the millions. Pregnant women are more at risk of a severe or critical course of the disease and also belong to the group of vulnerable patients. Although data from clinical trials of vaccines have been extensive and hundreds of millions of people worldwide have been vaccinated since the first COVID-19 vaccine became available, data from clinical trials in pregnant and breastfeeding women are limited. The main aim of our research was to evaluate the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant and breastfeeding women by collecting and analyzing the side effects of the vaccines given and analyzing the effects of vaccination on breastfeeding and on breastfed child.
