Basic principles of anaesthesia for neonates

The risk of complications in paediatric anaesthesia is inversely proportional to the age of the child, therefore the administration of anaesthesia in neonates is considered to be one of the most challenging tasks even for an experienced anaesthesiologist. Broad know- ledge of the anatomical and physiological specificity of neonatal age as well as lots of experience is inevitable. The close cooperation of specialists in neonatology, paediatrics, surgery, paediatric anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine are the key for optimal and safe perioperative management of neonates.
