Congenital eventration of diaphragm – case report

In clinical practice we encounter cases of neonates, who immediately or shortly after birth develop respiratory insufficiency. In most cases, we think of pulmonary involvement, but we have to think also on some rare congenital diseases affecting the diaphragm. In the case report, the authors present a case of term infant from uncomplicated pregnancy, who developed respiratory insufficiency after the birth. Using standard imaging studies, there was diagnosed a rare congenital anomaly eventration of the diaphragm. Because of clinical symptomatology, there was indicated surgical treatment – plication of the diaphragm. Due to advances in minimally invasive surgery, associated with many benefits for the patient, the child was operated by thoracoscopic approach with very good effect.
