Internal hernia as a cause of ileus in the infant

The authors present a case report of a 12-month infant admitted to the regional hospital with abdominal pain, fever and septic shock symptoms. The patient was transferred to the specialized pediatric surgery department because of suspicion to ileus. The urgent laparotomy was performed due to developed symptoms of acute abdomen. Internal paraduodenal hernia complicated by necrosis of incarcerated bowel in the hernial sac was manifested intraoperatively. The finding necessitated bowel resection and reconstruction of the intestinal continuity via ileo-ascendentostomy.
