Specifics of general anesthesia in surgical treatment of spinal deformities in pediatric patients

Pediatric patients undergoing orthopedic surgery form a heterogeneous group of patients with traumatic, degenerative or congenital musculoskeletal disorders that may be part of systemic skeletal diseases (osteogenesis imperfecta, achondroplasia, arthrogryposis). The most extensive operations include surgical treatment of spinal deformities. General anesthesia during these procedures should be performed only by an experienced pediatric anesthesiologist in a sufficiently equipped workplace with the possibility of postoperative intensive care.
