Recurrent respiratory tract infections in childhood
Recurrent viral infections in childhood are a frequent cause of medical pediatric visits. These patients are often allergic and immunodeficient. Prolonged course of infections during the vulnerable developmental stage of lung predisposes for subsequent chronic respiratory diseases in adults. Methisoprinol (Isoprinosine®) is a drug with immunomodulating and antiviral effects. In children with impaired immunity reduces the incidence, severity and duration of respiratory illness. Possible prevention of further consequences such as asthma or COPD remains still to be answered.
