Psychiatric disorders in obese children and adolescents
The obesity epidemic is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century. Its accompanied complications have farreaching and enduring adverse consequences for health outcomes and child development. While the somatic comorbidities of obesity are well documented, the association of obesity with mental disorders has been little researched. Psychiatric comorbidities may be a cause or consequence of childhood obesity, or they may share common aetiological factors. This review focuses on the most common psychiatric disorders in obese children and adolescents.
