Pseudoarthrosis and its solution in children and adolescent

Pseudoarthrosis is a pathologic unit characterized by a bone defect – a bone discontinuity. There are congenital pseudoarthrosis, caused by disconnection of two bone ossification centers, linked only by soft tissues or periosteum and acquired pseudoarthrosis arising from insufficient bone healing following trauma, infection or surgery. Treatment of congenital or acquired pseudoarthrosis is specific at children. Very important is initial differential diagnosis, etiology and circumstances leading to pseudoarthrosis, taking into account accompanying symptoms and overall condition. A comprehensive and interdisciplinary assessment is required to achieve successful treatment.
