Benefits of ASSR examination in diagnosis of hearing loss in young children

The work deals with diagnosis of hearing loss in young children benefits of ASSR (Auditory Steady-State Responses) Examination. ASSR belongs to middle latency response. The stimulus is amplitude and frequency modulated and is continuous. Test frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz are commonly used as ASSR carrier stimuli. The computer equipage calculates a frequency of specific objective audiogram. The advantage is the objective evaluation of the hearing response. The aim of the work is to evaluate the medical documentation of pediatric patients at DORLK LF UK and NICU in Bratislava in 2013 by ASSR examination and comparison of the results of the threshold values with a tone audiogram measured with time distance. The results vary insignificantly, with audiometry thresholds typically being 10 dB on average better than predicted for ASSR examination. In the discussion, we compare the results obtained with the studies that dealt with this issue.
