Pulmonary hypertension in pediatric population

Pulmonary hypertension is a syndrome defined by elevation of mean pulmonary arterial pressure over 20 mmHg. It is etiologically diverse condition which can be a result of chronic heart or pulmonary diseases, multiple systemic disorders or it can be a primary pulmonary vascular pathology. The article summarizes basic knowledge concerning pediatric pulmonary hypertension and provides an overview of current diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations. Untreated pulmonary hypertension is associated with poor prognosis and high mortality rate and that is why also primary care pediatricians should be aware of this condition.
