FLAT FOOT IN CHILDHOOD – DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY

Flat foot in childhood is one of the most common diagnoses, which are the reasons for referrals to orthopaedic ambulances. In absolutely majority of cases it is idiopathic flat foot based on increased laxicity of ligamentous apparatus of the foot. Basic criterion for mostly conservative management is individually created insole (however it is not the only way of conservative treatment) according to a casting is an assessment, whether the foot is compensated and functionally competent. If muscles contractures, pain and foot tiredness will develop, we recommend surgical treatment in a specialised centre. Rigid painful flat foot always requires detailed examination and individual management.
