Paediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome in timely relation to SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS)/Multisystem inflammatory syndrome caused by coronavirus (MIS-C) – diagnostic and therapeutic approach
PIMS-TS/MIS-C is a systemic inflammatory disease of unknown aetiology that first appeared in April 2020 in temporal relation to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the most affected countries in Europe and the USA. Its clinical presentation strikingly resembles Kawasaki disease and especially Kawasaki-shock syndrome with some features of COVID-19 with sudden onset of cardiogenic and circulatory shock that requires paediatric intensive care. Herein we present a diagnostic and therapeutic guidance that is based on current data and recommendations from the literature and our humble experience and that should help to promptly recognise and adequately treat this new clinical entity.
