Recurrent and prolonged acute cough in children

Cough is in an effective defence mechanism, which is used for removal of mucos, foreign matter and debris from the surface of the tissue of the respiratory tract. For children and their parents repeated and prolonged cough is frustrating problem, leading to additional symptoms and complications such as vomiting, fatigue, sleep disturbances, urinary incontinence, but also social isolation. Proper understanding of the causes and pathophysiology of protracted and recurrent cough can lead to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
