Management of lymphatic malformation in the region of the head and neck in children
Authors report a comprehensive view on the issue of lymphatic malformations in the region of the head and neck in children. LM is a benign congenital vascular malformation typically presenting as a laesion with aesthetic consequences on patients. In the event of complications life of the patient could be threatened by airway obstruction or by compression of neurovascular structures. Because of the typical local findings with radiological imaging, diagnosis of LM is assesed in most cases with no difficulty. The issue remains in terms of therapy, while there is no general consensus. Authors provide an overview on current possibilities in diagnosis and treatment with recommendations for management for pediatric patients with LM of the head and neck in terms of Otorhinolaryngology. Emphasis is placed on necessity of early recognition of lesion by general practitioners with prompt administration to otorhinolaryngologist.
