Malignant bone tumours in children
Childhood malignant diseases form 1-2% of all cancers in population. Malignant bone diseases of childhood are rare. In Slovakia there are annually about 8 to 17 cases in age from 0 to 18 years old. The purpose of this paper is to describe the most common primary bone tumours of childhood, their clinical presentation, diagnostic procedures, treatment and prognosis. We report retrospective analyses of the treatment result in cohort of patients with malignant bone tumours treated in Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. Successful treatment of malignant bone tumours requires the cooperation of a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, orthopaedists, pathologists, radiologists, physioterapists and psychologists.
