Juvenile localized scleroderma – from paediatric rheumatologist perspective

Juvenile localized scleroderma is a rare disease of unknown etiology and variable clinical presentation due to the inflammation of skin and adjacent subcutaneous tissue. Untreated or undertreated scleroderma may severely harm the growing organism of a child, causing joint contractures and localized defects of limb growth with permanent functional deficiency. Moreover, the clinical course of disease is complicated with systemic involvement in every fourth affected child. Author of this review summarizes the current opinions on classification and treatment of patients with juvenile localized scleroderma.
