Hypersensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics in children and its diagnostic possibilities

Drug induced hypersensitivity reactions to β-lactams are presented by different clinical symptoms and may be harmful. Evaluation of allergic reactions to drugs is difficult. Allergy reactions should be systematically evaluated and managed according to guidelines to avoid giving false labels to affected children and irrational antibiotic usage. This article summarizes currently available in vitro and in vivo tests in the diagnosis of drug allergy to β-lactams antibiotics.
