Enteral nutrition – indications, benefits and complications

The child’s body has differentiated requirements for energy supply, basic building material and macro/ micronutrients in individual age periods. However, in many acute and chronic diseases, the child is not able to take all the necessary nutrients in the form of a natural diet. At the same time, children are prone to rapid development of catabolism. Therefore, enteral nutrition, whether in complementary and/or complete form, should be an integral part of the comprehensive treatment of the pediatric patient. The authors discuss the indications, benefits and complications of enteral nutrition.
