Differential diagnosis of pelvic pain in children and adolescents of gynaecological etiology

Abdominal and pelvic pain are among the most common causes of pediatric patients and parents visiting a pediatrician. Most often, pain of gynaecological etiology is manifested as pelvic pain, while cranially it does not exceed the plane of the spina iliaca anterior superior. Most of the acute gynaecological causes of pelvic pain are related to the adnexal area and require urgent surgical intervention. In most cases intermittent pelvic pain is related to the menstrual cycle or congenital anomalies of genitalia. Chronic pelvic pain are more psychosomatic in nature. In the vast majority of cases, the management of such difficulties is multidisciplinary.
