PARAPNEUMONIC EFFUSION IN CHILDREN - DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY
Pleural effusion (PE) is a common feature of severe pneumonias. The incidence of complicated pneumonia with parapneumonic effusions is arising because of frequent antibiotics use and rising of primary and secondary imunodeficiencies. Image- guided methods a, i.e. chest X ray, pleural ultrasonography and CT are the gold standard of diagnosis. Exact micriobiologic examination is a very important to determine the underlying cause of PE. Management of pleural effusion includes antibiotics, pleural punction, and pleural drainage with fibrinolytic therapy in indicated cases also.
