IgA vasculitis diagnosis and treatment
IgA vasculitis (formerly Henoch-Schönlein purpura) is the most common primary systemic vasculitis in children. Despite being known for more than 200 years, a number of advances in our understanding of its genetics, pathogenesis and changes in its classification and nomenclature have occurred in the last decade. In 2019, the first European SHARE (Single Hub and Access point for paediatric Rheumatology in Europe) consensus-based recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of IgA vasculitis have been published. IgA vasculitis is of interest also in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as SARS-CoV-2 infection may lead to a variety of vascular manifestations.
