Diagnosis and treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a severe complication that can arise at the time of the onset of diabetes or at any time during the course of the disease. Untreated diabetic ketoacidosis is fatal; similarly, improperly or late treatment can have serious consequences. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment are crucial for prognosis. In an effort to standardize health care for children and adolescents with diabetic ketoacidosis, we present a diagnostic and treatment algorithm for this serious condition.
