Benign transient cutaneous lesions in newborns

The neonatal period comprises the first 28 days of extrauterine life. It is a period of adaptation, where the skin changes are frequent and severity of them can vary from benign, transient diseases to life-threatening conditions. This article brings a review of most common transient benign cutaneous lesions in the neonatal age, focused on clinical presentation and differential diagnosis. It is important to recognize them correctly and early to avoid excessive loading of newborn with diagnostic, eventually therapeutic pocedures.
