Acute ENT infection due to Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis
Acute infections of upper respiratory tract are most common in children. In 80 – 90 % are this infections caused by virus. Bacterial superinfection results to acute otitis media or rhinosinusitis. Most frequently occurring bacteria are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis. After world spread of vaccination by pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) increased number of otitis media and sinusitis caused by beta-lactam producing bacteria as H. influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis had been observed. In antibiotic treatment the drug of choice is protect aminopenicilin or cefalosporine of third generation which is also successful in treatment of pneumococcal infections.
