Current view of the iron deficiency anaemia in childhood

Iron deficiency anaemia is responsible for approximately half of all diagnosed anaemias in childhood. Its development is associates with at least one of three key mechanisms: reduced intake of iron, ist increased consumption or increased elimination. Since iron partakes in many key transport and enzymatic systems, its turnover in the body is regulated by a multi-stage mechanism. Iron deficiency anaemia has long-lasting effects on mental, motor and behavioral development of the child. To find out the reason for anaemia is very impotent for target and effective treatment.
