The use of biologic therapy in the prevention of pain and complications of osseal metastases in cancer diseases
Osseal metastases are the most often cause of pain in cancer patients, they make them aiddependent in their every day life. Osseal metastases are frequent by progression of metastatic cancer, by breast and prostate cancer patients in 70 – 80% but also in other progressive solid tumors, e.g. in lung cancer patients in 30 – 40%. Pain is the most feared sign of progressive cancer and the cause of misgiving of approaching death. This article summarises results of 3 pivotal phase III skeletal-related events prevention trials comparing denosumab and zoledronic acid including pain.
