Selected aspects of care of a patient with glioblastoma multiforme

Glioblastoma multiforme belongs to the group of high-grade gliomas and its 4th grade of malignity is among the most aggressive brain tumors. Prognosis of patients is unfavorable. Excepting the symptom management, it is necessary to focus on other aspects of care. The paper aimed to summarize selected aspects of care in patients with glioblastoma multiforme which should be emphasized by the attending staff. The paper was proceeded in the form of an overview study. Support is a significant aspect of the care of patients with glioblastoma multiforme because they require specialized, comprehensive and intensive nursing care. The emphasis should be placed on symptom management of the disease in the context of self-care support in daily living activities, emotional, social and spiritual support. A nurse, as a valid member of a multidisciplinary team in the care of these patients, is a functional element of effectively and in a high quality provided care to patients and his family to promote the quality of life at the highest possible level.
