The successful treatment of chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair by means of subcutaneous neurostimulation – case report
Chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair is a relatively significant post-operative problem and presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the pain clinician. Primary afferent stimulation directly to the site of pain via a subcutaneous temporary neurostimulating implant could be the optimal therapeutic compromise. This effect doesn’t correlate with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) applied externally over the painful area. We describe a case of 39-year old patient with a chronic pain syndrome after hernia repair.
Keywords: chronic pain, subcutaneous neurostimulation.
