Duloxetin – the first snri antidepressant in the neuropathic pain therapy
Duloxetin is relative balanced, selective reuptake inhibitor of serotonine and noreponephrine in brain and spinal cord. These two neurotransmitters are involved in modulating descendending inhibitory pain pathways. Because of this activity of serotonin and norepinephrinein in pain inhibition, duloxetin is considered a possible treatment diabetic neuropathic pain. It is the first SNRI antidepressant to be licensed for this indication.
