Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Ventilated patient hospice care – case report

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with unclear etiology that affects almost exclusively the motor system area. It gradually leads to weakness, spasticity, muscular atrophy, immobility, swallowing disorders, speech, respiratory failure. There is no effective causal treatment, at advanced and terminal stages the patient benefits from palliative care.
