Metastatic prostate cancer: principles of hormonal treatment
Hormonal manipulation in prostate cancer therapy is known for more than a century and it still persists as a treatment of choice in presence of distante metastases. Recently with the wide use of PSA (prostatic specific antigen) evaluation in males above 50 years a dramatic decrease of metastatic disease at diagnosis was observed. Author presents the essential principles of hormone therapy considering prognostic factors of not only the disease, but also the patient himself.
